D'Salon
From Capitol Hill to Gaming Communities
Oct 19, 2024, 6.30 PM @ Festival Center D'24
Event language: German
As the US gears up for the election, we will examine the Capitol riot, toxic masculinity, and the far right’s co-option of games like The Division 2. We will also explore the unexpected role played by NPCs in extremist groups. Spiel*Kritik, a collection of essays, offers a critical lens through which to examine video games, bringing art, science, and journalism together to dissect power dynamics. Following the discussion, we will be screening Hardly Working, a film by Total Refusal that presents NPCs as digital Sisyphi, trapped within an endless cycle yet capable of surprising moments of humanity.
