At the “silent green” stage in Berlin-Wedding, stories were celebrated that do more than just tell—they move us. The award-winning films of the second Doxumentale touch hearts, shake us up, and leave lasting impressions—deep within us, long after the credits roll.

If you haven’t seen our unique award-winning films yet, you still have a chance to catch them in cinemas until Sunday. And even after that, many of them will be available to stream across Germany until June 30th.

We’re excited to introduce you to our fantastic award-winning films:

The Age of Water by Alfredo and Isabel Alcántara, awarded Best Documentary at Doxumentale 2025, tells a story of grief turned into strength. After the death of three girls, six mothers in Mexico fight against the silence surrounding poisoned water. Alfredo and Isabel Alcántara’s film is a hymn to resilience and humanity. The jury—consisting of Ana Castañosa Bielsa, Alexandra Dorisca, Afsaneh Salari, and Lars Kraume—was deeply moved by the film’s overwhelming beauty and powerful message. A love letter to solidarity and empowerment that you definitely shouldn’t miss. Get your cinema ticket now!

Our jury decided to give two films a Special Mention:

The Dialogue Police — With words and patience, a Swedish police unit acts as a mediator between protesters and counter-protesters, striving to keep dialogue and free speech alive amidst escalating conflicts. Curious what convinced the jury? Check out an interview with director Susanna Edwards and protagonist Calle Ahlström to learn more about this unique award-winning film.

Also honored with a Special Mention is Third Act. Tadashi Nakamura’s intimate portrait of his father, Robert A. Nakamura, tells a moving story of pain, memory, and the journey toward self-acceptance—a powerful film about identity and healing through cinema. Watch this impactful film online or in theaters and secure your ticket here!

The Doxumentale Audience Award goes to Changing Sides by Loraine Blumenthal. Thomas “Eichi” Eichstädt coaches a football team of young refugees while confronting his own past as a former right-wing extremist. A compelling story about second chances, courage to change, and hope. The film had a sold-out Berlin premiere and is now also available online—a must-see highlight. Grab your online ticket here.
