New Wave

Oct 15, 2024, 8.00 PM @ DASHI Canteen

Event language: English

New Wave explores the rise of the music genre in the 1980s. Director Elizabeth Ai provides a personal and introspective look back at her own past, intertwined with the era's soundtrack. As a young mother, the Vietnamese-American filmmaker reflects on her childhood spent with her aunt and her strained relationship with her own mother. Alongside singer Lynda Trang Đài and DJ Ian “DJ BPM” Nguyen, Ai delves into the nostalgia of New Wave music, blending personal history with the genre’s vibrant sounds. The screening will take place at DASHI Canteen, which has been delighting guests by the Spree River since August 2024. This modern Asian restaurant not only offers exceptional cuisine but also boasts a stunning riverside terrace. Founded by the accomplished DASHI duo, Thao Westphal and Thu Thuy Pham, DASHI Canteen serves a vibrant, contemporary twist on traditional Asian dishes. After the film, join us for a Q&A with the filmmaker herself. Afterwards you can enjoy a night of music and mingling with a selection of tunes personally curated by Ai as well.
