Alreadymade

Oct 12, 2024, 7.30 PM @ Berlinische Galerie

Event language: English

Join us for a special screening of Alreadymade that will  fittingly take place at the Berlinische Galerie, a former glass warehouse that was specially converted for the gallery. As a hub where art intersects with art, we're thrilled to present a live performance by Valerie Renay, a Berlin based, French-Carribean multidiciplinary artist after as part of the programm.

Alreadymade is a film telling an alternative story of the artist and provocateur Marcel Duchamps famous artwork Fountain. The film questions the artists claim to the artwork and instead explores the possibility that  the lesser-known, flamboyant Dada artist Baroness Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven could be responsible for turning this much-discussed porcelain pisspot into art. Film-maker Visser tells the absurd story of this iconic work, with no certainty about whether the original still exists. A search for the truth and a reflection on what makes art art. The screening and following Q&A

After the film, the Q&A and performance we invite you to enjoy the bauty of the location with a great cocktail and music by DJ Tafkah.

Valerie Renay

Valerie Renay is a Berlin based, French-Caribbean multidisciplinary artist, creating music and performance work holding the emotional body at its core. Renay will unveil her latest single, "PEEL THE SKIN": A haunting track that draws listeners into an intimate landscape where the sparse instrumentation and vocals float like a mist over the Berlin skyline at dusk. Revealing one shivering layer at a time, hypnotic tones construct a dream-like atemporal space.
