We'll discuss what to weigh when deciding whether to pursue an impact campaign, how to protect participants and teams, and the blurred line between documenting and advocating. A space for honest reflection on responsibility, risk, and intention in nonfiction storytelling.

Paul Radu

Paul Radu is a Romanian investigative journalist and co-founder of the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), where he serves as president. He gained international recognition for his investigations into human trafficking, corruption, and bribery in Eastern Europe. Radu is also a co-founder of the Romanian Center for Investigative Journalism and a Knight International Journalism Fellow. He received the European Press Prize Special Award in 2018.

Ali Arkady

Ali Arkady, an Iraqi photojournalist, artist, and filmmaker, fled Iraq with his family in 2017 after documenting Iraqi armed forces committing war crimes. Arkady continues his artistic and photographic work, focusing on human rights and social justice issues. His work includes photography, art, and documentary and fictional films, all aimed at raising awareness about global concerns. Currently, he is developing new projects centered on displacement, migration and the struggles of refugees.

Leslie Thomas

Leslie Thomas is a documentary producer/director, human rights campaigner, Emmy-winning art director, and architect. Recent projects include The Sharp Edge of Peace (producer), about Afghan women peace negotiators, The Prosecutors (director/producer), featuring human rights lawyers prosecuting military combatants for war crimes, and Syria Justice (co-director), on Syrian regime-led war crimes. She co-edited Witnesses to War: The Children of Syria and founded ART WORKS Projects.

Celia Parbey is a Berlin-based African Studies scholar and editor at ZEIT ONLINE. She also works as a freelance writer for various online and print magazines. In addition, she is the editor-in-chief of RosaMag, an online lifestyle magazine for Black FLINTA* individuals in German-speaking countries. Her writing focuses on topics such as colonial continuities, intersectionality, feminism, and racism.
