Waking Up in Silence
Mila Zhluktenko, Daniel Asadi Faezi / Ukraine, Germany / 2022 / 18 min
Warm rays of sunshine fall on sturdy buildings: children who fled Ukraine now live in the barracks of a former German military base. They ride bikes, make flower wreaths, and explore empty rooms. In their play, they encounter old military symbols, linking them to their own stories and dreams. On the sidewalk, one message appears again and again: “Putin, stop killing people.” Amid echoes of the past, these children shape their own narratives of hope, resilience, and the longing for peace.
